What the Gospel is NOT

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed” – Galatians 1:8

Paul the Apostle tells us in Romans 1:16-17 that there is only one Gospel that brings salvation to the believer. It is the same Gospel that he spent his life preaching and defending despite much opposition from others. In fact, Paul without hesitation also sternly warns in Galatians 1:6-12 that if any person or any angel (ie. demons – 1 Timothy 4:1) were to undertake the preaching of a different Gospel message than the one and only True One, both the message and the messenger would be accursed by God in their efforts.

Explicitly, we see the Gospel defined by the beloved Apostle in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:”

Having now seen what the Gospel is then, it should declared and clearly discerned what the Gospel is not. Today, satan is hard at work deceiving the masses with multiple false gospels that are ALL accursed of God. A discerning eye will recognize that each hellish spin placed on the true Gospel when reduced to it’s simplest form always has the same rotten and crumbling foundation that will condemn a sinner straight to hell – and that is some form of works added to Jesus’ Blood shed on the cross to pay for the sins of all the world.

Make no mistake my friend, religion cannot and will not ever save anyone. In fact the road to hell is paved with religion, so-called “good works”, good intentions and false gospels. There is only One True Gospel that brings salvation.

To be clear, the Gospel is NOT:
  • “Committing your life” to Christ
  • “Giving your life” to Christ
  • “Surrendering your life” to Christ.
  • “Promising to follow” Christ.
  • “Putting Christ on the throne” of your life.
  • “Trying to forsake all your sins” (impossible).
  • “Accepting Jesus into your heart.”
  • “Accepting Jesus into your life.”
  • “Becoming a disciple” of Christ (Judas was a disciple, not a believer).
  • “Making Jesus Lord” (He already IS Lord).
  •   A “necessary” feeling of sorrow, compunction, or contrition for your sins.
  • “Reforming your life or bad habits.”
  • “Making a mental commitment” to stop sinning.
  •   Meaning “business” with God (whatever that means).
  • “Going forward” and/or “publicly confessing” Christ.
  • “Perservering unto the end.”
  •  Participation in mass, sacraments, or confession.
  •  Giving money to a church or belonging to a certain denomination or cult.
  •  Being a “good” person or trying to live a moral life.
  •  Being baptized in water as a child or an adult.
  •  Being dedicated as a infant to God.
  • Faith in any other religion, cult, or belief system.

When each of the above list is thought through to it’s logical end, it should quickly be recognized that every single one involves some form of human effort in order to secure the sinner’s salvation. This however lies directly opposed to the message of God’s Grace through the Gospel to the world through His only begotten Son crucified, buried, and raised again. In fact, we have to honestly ask ourselves that if one could somehow earn or contribute to his or her getting to Heaven by their own efforts, then why did Jesus have to die anyway?

For added clarity, we see in John 6:29 what the Lord Jesus Christ states is the ONLY acceptable work that gets someone into Heaven:

Then said they unto Him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is THE work of God, that ye believe on Him (Jesus) Whom He hath sent”.

Once a person has recognized that they are a sinner, believed the true Gospel, and as a result been born again via the Holy Spirit, God does understandably desire then for those believers to go on and live a life of obedience to Him by their choice for both a testimony to others as well as their own blessing. The reality however is though that the child’s eternal salvation is never in jeopardy should they sin in the future (John 10:28-30, 1 John 2:1, etc), and like the perfect parent that He is, God will chastise a wayward child that persists in his/her own way (Heb 12:6), as well as they potentially risk a loss of rewards they could have had in Heaven (1 Cor 3:10-15).

My friend, please do not be fooled by the devil’s wiles. Jesus did it all and paid it all with His Blood because we couldn’t without going to hell forever. Remember, false gospels seek to exalt a sinner’s ability to save themselves (impossible), while the true Gospel exalts the Lord Jesus Christ alone and His shed Blood.
